Still light blogging this week

I’m still mostly off the grid this week, blogging may resume on Saturday.  Getting in some much needed rest and relaxation time with J.

A couple of recent notes:

The stimulus hasn’t worked, so clearly, we need to do more of it.  Europe, on the other hand, appears to have finally learned their lesson.

The US soccer team got as far as they should have.  A decent squad, but not in the top 8.

Providence is a cool little town.  Waterfire is impressive, both as an installation and as a demonstration of how we don’t need the government to do these things.  Not really much of a foodie town, but we did miss a couple of places that may have been good on a poor recommendation.

See you later!

Off the grid

As usual, you can tell that I’m busy at work when blogging comes to a complete halt.  There’s a lot going on, and I need to stay focused on what I’m doing, which means less time to write on the internets.

I’m involved in a couple of projects that are taking up a lot of time, and we’re also going to take a little vacation, so for the next month to 6 weeks posts will be sparse.

Training is still a priority, although I tend to be a Blast/Dust person; I’m going to stick with it as best I can, but there may be some changes as I may not be able to train much during the work week.

I’m going to bench today, though!

Quote of the day

Don Boudreaux at Cafe Hayek:

…it’s childish to imagine that we can turn any aspect of our lives over to politicians without inevitably subjecting that aspect of our lives to politics.

There’s no need for any other argument against government action, is there?

We should learn from North Korea

There’s a lesson in this story. Ironic the Times Editorial board misses it, completely.  North Korea is a shining example of the complete failure of central state planning. These folks think people in China are free!

Yet we continue, slowly, down the same path.

Makes sense, to a simpleton

Baltimore City is desperate to increase its tax base.  The city needs to draw in middle and high income residents who buy homes and pay property and income taxes.

Naturally, the best way to draw those people into the city is to raise the income tax.

The council signaled approval Monday for four measures proposed by Rawlings-Blake: An increase in the income tax rate from 3.05 to 3.20 percent; a 4 percent bump in the parking tax rate; small hikes in taxes on telephone lines; and the end of a discount for some early payments on property taxes. The measures are slated for a third and final vote next Monday, but the second vote indicates broad support from council members.

By the way, ending a discount for early payment of taxes is a tax increase.  A property tax increase, in Baltimore City.

Apparently, other than police and fire, there are no other possible cuts in spending.  We do own a lovely hotel and the Senator Theater, though.

We remain governed by simpletons.  It’s time to replace the city council, unfortunately, politics in Baltimore is all about the Democrat party and their power structure.

But who are they going to tax when the people who have incomes and wealth leave?

No cardio, was running about 2 hours behind schedule due to work and needed to get home.

Training, 6/2/10

Really not feeling well today; either sleep deprived or getting sick. But got there.

SSB Box Squat
45×5
95×3
135×3
185×1
225×1
245×1
The SSB should come with a warning label: This will make things hurt you didn’t know you had. Damn. What stopped me at 245 wasn’t my legs, it was my abs and low back, I couldn’t stay stable at all.

Stepups
3×5

KB Swings
2×8 @ 20KB

Incline situps
3×5

Skipped cardio, thought I was going to die. Taking 10 days off didn’t help my conditioning, and not feeling well didn’t help. It was a chore to just carry my squat box in and out.

Came home and laid on the floor and fell asleep for 30 minutes.
