But it’s not all bad, in fact, some of it’s quite good!
First things first though: I haven’t trained for about a month. It’s my own fault that I let other stuff interfere with getting done what I need to get done, and those mistakes will keep me from achieving my goal of totalling 1200 in a meet. The MD State PL Championships is scheduled for November 20, and I will just be getting back in to lifting shape, I don’t have any gear, and I’m just not prepared to commit what it takes to get there and perform well.
So I’ll go back and reevaluate where I want to go this next year, and come up with a plan. Maybe this time I’ll execute it.
I’ve also been distracted by some things going on at work. Since I prefer to not identify my employer publicly I can’t go in to too much detail other than to say I don’t know if I’ll have a job next year. I should know no later than mid-November, and I’m really optimistic. The main distraction isn’t so much about having a job, it’s that I don’t know what the organization looks like yet, and I don’t know if I’ll like my job in the new world.
As an aside, one of the nice things about having your financial house in order is that I’m not at all worried about losing my income. We live beneath our means and don’t have debt. I can go a long time without an income and we’ll be OK; the main change would be to our long term goal of financial independence and ability to retire by the time we are 55.
I’ve also been distracted by some pretty cool stuff. We’ve been having a lot of fun. We went sailing for the first time. We’ve been eating, drinking, and being merry. I went to see Slayer. I went to the NHRA races in Lancaster.
I’ve also been focused on some other writing; I actually got offered a paid writing gig to write for a sports blog. I turned it down because they would own my work and I wouldn’t be able to use it. Again, it’s nice to not need the money. I’m now a Featured Columnist at Bleacher Report (and have now been syndicated). My blog feed is now on the Before It’s News Network.
I’m also now apparently considered an “influential” wine blogger, and I’m participating in an online Chilean wine tasting tonight.
All of that stuff has limited my blogging here a bit. I expect things to calm down a little after this week, and I should be able to refocus myself. Frankly, getting to the gym is going to help with the stress on the job front if nothing else.
I’ll probably post my new training plan for next year once I figure out what my goal will be and get it all worked out. It will be simple, most of the planning will have to do with some conditioning and body composition stuff I need to do now that I have some time.
