Rebooting Blogging?

I think I might start blogging again.  It’s been a long time since I regularly wrote anything other than training log updates, and even those moved to facebook a while ago.

I have moved on (mostly) from political/current events.  The older I get, the less I care, and the more I realize how little it matters to me.  I’ve posted about this before, but I’ll say it again:  When part of such a small minority political philosophy, you can lose yourself in frustration.  The vast majority of people fundamentally believe they get their rights from the government in the form of permission; that there is no such thing as a right based simply on a persons’ humanity.  That isn’t changing in my lifetime, so instead of getting worked up about which R or D is going to get elected, I refocused on myself, my family, my friends, and my clients.  Whatever the government does, I can work around it; typically it’s just a financial cost, so I just work a little harder.  (I feel bad for people who can’t do that – where a 20%+ increase in their ‘affordable’ health care insurance means something in their monthly budget.)

Anyway, I’m done with frustrations.  Other than the Ravens.

So if I actually stick with this, I’ll be posting about food, wine, lifting, with a little Economics, and probably some other random stuff tossed in for good measure.

Update

Over the last two months, my dad spent about 7 weeks in the hospital/rehab after a major heart attack (he arrested in cardiac ICU), and my mom, who had been battling cancer for 5 years, entered hospice care and passed away.

So I haven’t been blogging much.

Good stuff coming soon though.  Gonna take my life back.

Focus

I think everyone knows if you try to focus on everything, you won’t get anything done.  In my case, recently, I’ve found myself focused more on my training, my enjoyment of life, and work than anything else, including blogging.

Frankly, I’m a little tired of it.  There are plenty of voices saying what needs to be said, most of them say it better than I do; and not much is going to change.  The same people who elected George W. Bush elected Obama.  Those same people elected Republicans to control the Congress and they spend out of control, then they elected Democrats who spend out of control.  They are all the same; the goal is to take power from the individual and get it to the government.  I’m optimistic there will eventually be a move for limited government, but we have to be realistic; it’s a 50 year movement, not a 4 year movement.

(The two main things recently that have driven me to this are the “Rand Paul/Libertarians are racists” stories and the Mayor of Baltimore pulling out the old “we’re out of money so we are grounding the police helicopter and closing fire stations… or…. we can raise some taxes” play.)

Since not much will change (even with the groundswell of anti incumbency that will hit in November), it’s best that we focus on what we can control, which in my case is my own life.  I need to get strong, I need to have fun, I need to be good at work, I need to control what I can, and prepare for what I can’t.

So blogging will slow down a little for a while, and I think the subject matter will shift to more personal development, interesting or fun stuff, training, and personal stories.  I’m sure a couple of Libertarian rants will sneak through, though.  Blogging is all about my enjoyment, so I should do what I want, anyway.

I’m going to be off the grid starting this afternoon, be back on sometime late Friday, so expect light posting until then.

Recent lack of blogging

For those regularly visiting to read wealth building articles, I apologize for the last couple of weeks and the lack of new posts. I’ve got a couple of series bouncing around in my head along with wealth building (the born in 1970 series and a couple of things on time management and personal development), but I just haven’t had the opportunity to sit down and write for a while.

The job that pays tends to be the one that comes first, and I’ve put training and some other personal stuff in front of making sure I get a blog post out every day (or a series post done for every week).  I honestly haven’t been keeping up with my feed reader or the news, so I haven’t had much current event stuff, either.

Training is going well, though, so there’s that.  I am still updating Twitter a bit, so I’m there if you’re looking for me.
