Content vs Connections

Google Plus opened to everyone today.  I joined a couple of months ago via invitation.  Thus far, I’m unimpressed, although the video chat feature might be really cool, were I ever to need it.

In one sentence, here’s my take on social media:  Twitter and Google Plus are content driven, Facebook remains contact driven.  I don’t know and have never met most of the people I follow on Twitter; it’s like a random news feed, with some occasional interpersonal (usually local) interaction.  Google Plus, so far, is just a more complex version of Twitter.  Facebook remains my platform of choice to interact with people I actually know.

But what do I know… I remember thinking USENET was awesome.
